Registration duties: the main cost

When buying an existing property in Belgium, the buyer pays registration duties on the sale price. The rate depends on the region: in Flanders 3 % for an own and sole home (otherwise 12 %); in Brussels and Wallonia 12.5 %, with possible reductions.

Notary fees: regulated

Notary fees follow a decreasing scale set by royal decree, the same across the country, plus 21 % VAT and various disbursements.
